Award winning chef chooses Devon
for his unique culinary experience
Knowstone, Devon 4th July 2005 …
Award winning chef Mark Dodson has opened for business
as chef owner at a thirteenth century Inn called The
Mason’s Arms in Knowstone. With wife Sarah looking
after ‘front of house’, the couple offer
dishes prepared using the finest local ingredients.
Mark’s experience is second to none, working
alongside Michel Roux at The Waterside Inn for 18 years,
13 of which were as head chef. Following this, Mark
spent 3 years at Cliveden House Hotel, Taplow as its
executive chef. Cliveden has become a byword for fine
dining, and has attracted numerous awards and accolades.
Commenting on their move to The Mason’s Arms,
Michel Roux says, “I wish Mark and Sarah all the
very best with their new venture in Devon. I know that
with Mark’s expertise and experience, much of
which was gained in his 18 years of service at the Waterside
Inn, his restaurant will be a success. I look forward
to eating there very soon.”
The picturesque village of Knowstone is located in
North Devon, between Tiverton and Barnstaple, in the
rolling foothills of Exmoor. Mark says of the move to
Devon, “It is a magical part of the world and
my family and I are delighted with the village and the
surrounding area. The location is perfect and I aim
to use the freshest local ingredients, sourced from
farmers, growers and suppliers within the area, in my
dishes wherever I can. The local meat, fish and dairy
produce are all first class.”
Mark, his wife Sarah and their three daughters Alex,
Charlotte and Louisa, plan to make The Mason’s
Arms the place to eat, whilst keeping the fabulous local
atmosphere. They plan to keep the traditional feel of
the Inn and provide exquisite English cooking.
